The firm was established in 1981 by Harry Schoombie who practiced as a sole practitioner for twenty years. On 1 February 2001 his daughter, Elma Schoombie joined him as a partner and Schoombie Accountants was established. In May 2023 the partners decided to seize all auditing functions and focus their energy on consulting services. Thus Schoombie Auditors morphed into Schoombie Accountants.

The firm currently serves a wide range of clients in  a wide range of industries. The partners are assisted by dedicated technical and administrative staff members.
